When Donald Trump used a September 10 presidential debate to promote false claims that Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio, had been eating residents’ pets, it cast an unwanted spotlight on the city and, for many Haitians, instilled a climate of fear. Trump has since doubled down on the claims. Many fear what might happen if Trump wins.
